Tech glitches, mean people and bad weather caused me to have a very vexing week. Freezing temperatures played havoc with the buried utility cables in my subdivision. We were freezing, without power three times; once for ten hours. I would have had a severe case of tech withdrawal this week if I didn't have my EVO phone for internet access and to check email when the power was out. The only problem is I could not access my online class through a smart phone and I really couldn't pack up my desktop and lug it over to Starbuck's for the wifi. I was having problems with my internet provider as well and had to get a new modem. To add to my anxiety, my trusty solar charger would not charge with the sun hidden by thick grey clouds promising to drop a load of snow on us. Thank goodness I had enough gas in the car to ride around, run a few errands and charge my phone while I waited impatiently for it to snow.
Now about the mean people... People whose son had damaged my car in a drunken rage reneged on their promise to pay for repairs. Now, I will have to sue. If I had that much hair I would have pulled some of it out by now. Too, bad I didn’t have the technology (like a taser or sonic weapon) to deter a mean drunk. My Evo (notorious for eating up power) was my only weapon and my attempt at videotaping this lout in action was futile as the power died at a most inoportune time. Lucky for me, someone else called the police on THEIR smart phone. My only consolation so far is that I can file the report online.
The possibility of snow had been hyped up for days on the news, but turned out to be a light dusting. Everything was cancelled and highways closed because of black ice underneath the snow that did fall. The kids in the neighborhood though were deliriously happy at a Snow Day in San Antonio, marveling at that truly rare occurrence. I am so glad I took heed, covered all exposed pipes and let the water faucets drip. One of my cousins didn’t. The result was a free iceskating rink in his his backyard. The photo is not a starry night, but a snowy night in San Antonio. And the mean people? They were the least of my problems as my camera shut down from the cold at 19 degrees, with only a very few pictures to remember the night
